What are the benefits of family dentistry?
When the whole family receives care at one practice, you get the benefits of:
- Convenience – Multiple appointments can be scheduled same day for less travel and missed work time.
- Background – Our dentists develop an in-depth knowledge of your family’s medical history and hereditary patterns that may affect dental health or oral development.
- Familiarity – Children and adults find comfort in faces they know, a setting they are accustomed to, and a routine process. That creates a relaxed environment and open communication.
When should I start bringing my child to the dentist?
The Canadian Dental Association recommends starting a child’s professional dental care within six months of the appearance of the first tooth, or by baby’s first birthday, to develop healthy oral habits. Parent education is an important part of these visits. We explain how to care for baby’s teeth, discuss nutrition, and talk about pacifiers, baby bottle tooth decay, and other concerns. We do everything in our power to make sure the experience is a pleasant
way for your child to get comfortable with seeing the dentist. Eventually, cleanings and x-rays are introduced, and preventative care begins. Because bitewing x-rays can be uncomfortable for small mouths, we use a CBCT cone beam machine for 3D imaging.
What are typical family dentistry services?
In addition to preventative dentistry and cosmetic treatments described on specific pages of this website, family dentistry typically encompasses restorative care such as:
- Tooth colored fillings
- Crowns and bridges
- Dental implants
- Root canal therapy
