Oral hygiene made easy: Tips for cleaning your bridge
Good brushing and flossing habits are the foundation of oral health. Most people know that they should brush at least twice a day, and floss at least once. However, frequency is only part of the formula for successful hygiene; technique is equally important. It can be surprisingly easy to miss areas of plaque, which soon harden into tartar. This is especially common for people with fixed dental bridges, because plaque and food particles become trapped under the false tooth. Here are a few tips for effective cleaning, without unnecessary frustration:
  • Use a floss threader to easily guide floss between the gum and the bridge.
  • Clean all exposed surfaces using a gentle back-and-forth motion with the floss.
  • An oral irrigator can help clean under bridges and around other dental work.
  • A toothpick can remove some food particles from under a bridge, but it is not a replacement for flossing.
  • Visit Aberdeen Dental Centre every six months for a checkup and cleaning. If you have any oral hygiene questions, be sure to ask us for guidance.
If you are looking for a low-maintenance, long-lasting alternative to your dental bridge, ask us if you are a good candidate for implants.
